OZEV Grant — £350 off home charger installation

The government's Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) provides £350 off the cost of a 7kW or 3.7kW home charger for eligible homeowners. Your installer must be OZEV-approved. Toggle eligibility below.

The standard home charge point. A 7kW (32A, single phase) charger adds around 25–30 miles of range per hour — enough to fully charge most EVs overnight. All modern home chargers are 'smart' (app-controlled, scheduled charging, energy tracking). OZEV grant eligible (£350 off).

Charging speed: ~25–30 miles/hour

How much does a home EV charger cost to install in the UK? (2025)

A home EV charger installation in the UK costs between £400 and £2,200 in total, before any government grants. After the £350 OZEV grant, most homeowners pay £400–£1,000 for a standard 7kW smart charger on a short to medium cable run.

The main variables are the charger's output (3.7kW, 7kW or 22kW), the distance from your consumer unit to the parking space, and whether any additional electrical work — such as a consumer unit upgrade — is needed.

Charger types — speed and cost compared

ChargerInstall cost (before grant)
3.7kW (single phase)£600–£1,400
7kW (single phase)£750–£1,700
22kW (three phase)£1,200–£3,000

*Full charge times based on a typical 60–80kWh battery EV.

What is the OZEV grant?

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), administered by OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles), provides £350 off the cost of purchasing and installing a home chargepoint. To qualify: you must own or have primary use of an eligible EV or PHEV; the property must be in the UK; you must have dedicated off-street parking; and your installer must be OZEV-approved. The grant is applied directly by your installer — you do not claim it yourself.

From 2022, the grant no longer applies to homeowners in single-unit properties (houses) — it is now limited to flat owners, renters (via landlord), and people in flats. However, workplace and rental sector grants remain available. Check the current OZEV website for the most up-to-date eligibility rules as these have changed frequently.

Do I need an OZEV-approved electrician?

To claim the government grant, yes — your installer must be on the OZEV approved installer list. Even without the grant, EV charger installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician registered with a Part P-approved scheme (NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA), as it is notifiable electrical work. An unregistered installation will not receive an electrical certificate and may create issues when selling your home.
